PANJIM: The John Paul II Foundation for Sports (Goa) will be organizing the 2nd All-India Christian Football Championship for the Agape Cup to be held from October 30 to November 1, at Duler stadium, Duler.
The announcement came by the organizers at a press conference held in Panjim, on Tuesday.
Last years winners, Tamil Nadu along with runners-up Kerala will be vying for the top honours along with teams
from Delhi, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Jarkhand, West Bengal and Goa.
The tournament is to be played on a league cum knock-out basis. The finals are scheduled for November 1, 8.30 a.m.
The tournament is being held to select the probables for the Indian team that would be participating in the Expo 2014 Unity World Cup to be played later in Goa in December.
Fr Valentino Alvares, assistant parish priest of St Thomas church, Aldona who led the Archbishop’s XI team against the Hallelujah FC team from South Korea that visited Goa in 2011 would lead the Goan team in the National championship and there are three other priests participating in the Goa team.
Carlton Chapman former India Captain along with AIFF coach Savio Madeira and Marcus Pacheco would be the
selectors keeping an eye to scout for the best players to represent India.
Fr Alfred Vaz (Convener Exposition 2014 committee) along with Elvis Gomes (President of GFA), Fr Derrick Fernandes (Director VCDC & Council member of JP2F4S) and Kennedy D’Silva (Director of JP2F4S) were present.
