PANJIM: “The AIFF has done nothing till date to promote beach football,” charged SAG’s joint direction coaching Bruno Coutinho.
“Till today nothing has been done by AIFF for beach football. Consequently, I appeal to GFA to launch a football league in Goa. We can do something for beach football promotion and it can be done the easy way since one does not need infrastructure,” thundered the Arjuna awardee. He was speaking at the press briefing in connection with 2nd Kingfisher Beach Football Challenge 2011-12 at Crown Hotel, here.
“I attended a seminar on beach football, being deputed by AIFF in Colombo. I also was the coach of the India team which participated in an international event in Bali, Indonesia. And, that’s all. Period,” contended Bruno. “Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan have leagues dedicated to beach football. In India we have nothing. So, it’s time for Goa to give the lead. I have not officially spoken to GFA about this, but we can do it now,” remarked Bruno.
