SAO JOSE DE AREAL: Albert Developers Merces Veterans defeated hosts Assolda Veterans 1-0 in the final to lift the 2nd Assolda Veterans Trophy played at Padribhat ground, Sao Jose de Areal, on Saturday.
In the start backed by the crowd support Assolda’s Dinesh Naik collected the ball from Krishna Shirodkar and made a daunting run in the rival territory but Elvis Pereira tackled his move in the 15th minute.
A well combined move of Ramesh Palkar and Nevil Araujo for Albert Developers should have borne fruit but Dinesh Naik of Assolda Veterans blocked his move in the 38th minuute.
Later in the second half Alex Alvares of Albert Developers scored the winning goal to take the trophy home.
The winners were awarded Rs 35,000 while the runners-up received Rs 25,000 plus trophy.
Nilesh Cabral, MLA of Curchorem Constiuency was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Dattaraj Dessai, Raymond D’Cruz, Gaby, Valentine and other dignitaries.
