PANJIM: Albert Developers scored a 2-1 win over PVC Parra while Churchill Brothers and Bidesh XI SC played out 1-1 draw in the GFA Vedanta Women’s League on Wednesday.
At Duler stadium, Vedanta prodigy Karishma Shirvoikar made darting runs in the early minutes of the game. Cia Almeida had a chance in the 12th minute after she freed Sushmita Jadhav upfront for Albert Developers SC but Sushmita shot straight at the keeper.
PVC Parra made an early substitution as Jesma replaced Divya Rajan in the 17th minute. Flani Costa created chances in the first half and troubled the defence line after she cut from the right-wing and attempted two shots on goal.
Sushmita looked dangerous at the beginning of second as she made a run forward to take a strike on goal from a difficult angle. She hit the post after taking the shot from the left-wing.
On the other end, Karishma made a through-ball for Joyvi Fernandes on the right-wing after collecting the ball in the centre of the pitch. However, Karishma couldn’t get a touch from the cross put in the dangerous area from the winger.
Karishma had another opportunity in the 64th minute after she chipped the defender to take control of the ball upfront but was held back by defender Linda Calado. The referee immediately pointed for a free-kick, long way from the goal. Karishma stepped up to take the free-kick and to everyone’s surprise struck the ball straight at the goal.
The ball went flying past the keeper to give PVC Parra the lead.
Karishma had another opportunity from a corner-kick after the ball met her feet and she volleyed it into the keeper.
PVC Parra looked comfortable on the ball after scoring in the 65th minute. However, Sushma made a run forward during the dying minutes of the game after a brilliant through ball from Beverly allowed her to score from a one-on-one opportunity.
The game was levelled at 85th-minute mark. Sushma rescued Albert Developers after scoring again inside two minutes after she dribbled past defenders outside the penalty area to place the ball in the left corner.
At Navelim, Churchill Brothers SC scored through Alisha Tavares in the 82nd minute but conceded minutes later through Bidesh XI skipper Ansiva Vaz. The game ended in a 1-1 draw at the end of 90 minutes.
