M Barath emerged as the sole leader with five points after defeating Anant Prabhudesai in the fifth round of All-Goa under-13 open chess selection tournament

PANJIM: M Barath emerged as the sole leader with five points after defeating Anant Prabhudesai in the fifth round of All-Goa under-13 open chess selection tournament organized by Salcete Taluka Chess Association on behalf of Goa Chess Association at Lingayat Hall, Margao.

Nitish Belurkar is in second position with 4.5 points after he got the better of Anirudh Parsekar. Shane Braganza drew with Rajaryan Kuvelkar while Tatvesh Sawant won against Vaibhav Pednekar. Shane and Tatvesh are on four points each.

In the girls section, Aditee Prabhugaonkar emerged the sole leader at the end of the fourth round. She defeated Krystal Fernandes with black pieces in the fourth match. Urvi Bandekar, Riddhi Zantye, Swera Ana Braganza, Sakshi Naik Gaonkar, Aishwarya Thorat, Faiziya Khan and Alaina Pereira are on three points each.

Urvi Bandekar drew with Sakshi Naik Gaonkar, Swera Braganza drew with Gunjal Chopdekar, Riddhi Zantye defeated Siddhi Naik, Aishwarya Thorat defeated Reema Naik, Faiziya Khan defeated Sambhavi Gaonkar, Alaina Pereira defeated Stacy Almeida in the fourth round.

In all, 51 boys and 26 girls are participating in the tournament.
