PANJIM: FC Goa coach Sergio was pleased and happy with the team’s performance following his side’s impressive win over Mumbai City FC at Nerhu Stadium, Fatorda.
“In the second half we were very good, we were far more superior after we scored the second goal. I am happy with the performance of the team,” said Sergio speaking during the post match conference.
“What we had and what we knew for clear that this was not going to be an easy game. Apart from the chances they (Mumbai) had, we defended well. And we took advantage of the chances we had and in football ultimately this is what counts,” he added.
“I am looking at how the team and conditions of the players is. The situation will be tight but I believe we have players who can meet the challenges,” he explained.
FC Goa displayed some individual brilliances on the field, however, coach Sergio stressed upon team effort.
“Like I have always maintained and like I always said, it is always the team that rises above the individuals. Thankfully we have a team who can create lot of opportunities and score lot of goals. It’s our good fortune to have striker like Coro who is very good player at his position. But it is also good that we have players who can come off the bench and score,” expressed Coro.
“I think the result is always the consequence of the actions in the game. The thing which makes them whole is the multiple things and multiple facets of the game working together as the team and I think they played well,” he added.
“The thing that I’m most happy about is all the fans who came today are going to go back home happy,” Sergio signed off.
