RAIA: Ambelim Sports Club stunned Guirdolim Club 7-5 to move to the semi-finals of the VJT Cup, at Chinchinim ground, on Wednesday.
Guirdolim Sports Club dominated the first half with two early goals from Louie Noronha and Mario Fernandes in the ninth and 12th minutes respectively. Ambelim struggled to create any chances and went into the break trailing by two goals.
However, the second half was a different story as Ambelim changed their tactics and pressed high up the pitch. Perryson Fernandes scored a superb solo goal in the 58th minute to reduce the deficit and Semson Fernandes equalised five minutes later off a header from a corner for Ambelim. The match ended 2-2 after 90 minutes and went into a penalty shoot-out.
Ambelim Sports Club converted all their five spot-kicks through Rayan Pinto, Velroy Fernandes, Perryson Fernandes, Leister Fernandes and Semson Fernandes while netted through Myron Fernandes, Louie Noronha and Akram Yadwad for Guirdolim Club.
Louie Noronha of Guirdolim Club was named man-of-the-match.
