Ambelim SC storm into quarters

BENAULIM: Ambelim Sports Club edge past St Rock Youth Club Majorda 2-1 to enter the quarter-finals of the 31st Strikers Trophy Soccer tournament organized by Young Strikers Benaulim and being played at St John the Baptist Ground Dando-Benaulim, on Tuesday.

BENAULIM: Ambelim Sports Club edge past St Rock Youth Club Majorda 2-1 to enter the quarter-finals of the 31st Strikers Trophy Soccer tournament organized by Young Strikers Benaulim and being played at St John the Baptist Ground Dando-Benaulim, on Tuesday.
Nial Cardozo was at his best for versus Ambelim SC while Mathew Colaco of St Rock YC Majorda made moves on the forefront. 
Ambelim SC dominated the first half with Richard Fernandes who made his move in the 4th minute but was tackled by Royston Goes of St Rock YC.
Thereafter in the 8th minute Blasco Fernandes of Ambelim SC attempted a shot at the goal but was pushed away to safety by the rival goalkeeper.
Mathew Colaco of St Rock YC in the 10th minute should have found the ball at the back of Ambelim SC net but Rehman Cardozo defender of Ambelim SC foiled the move.
Flesban Furtado of St Rock YC collected a ball from Clinton Fernandes but delayed in taking the shot from the rival box in the 15th minute but couldn’t find the net.
The 30th minute saw Nial Cardozo of Ambelim SC score the first goal of the match in style as he left St Rocks YC, defender Royston Goes and the goalkeeper, behind to shoot the ball home.
Mathew Colaco tried a solo effort for St Rock but Prinson Fernandes of Ambelim SC blocked his move in the 33rd minute.
At half time the score was 1-0. 
After the change of ends, St Rocks YC were a transformed side with striker Mathew Colaco harrasing the rival defenders with his pace. 
St Rocks YC’s persistent efforts were rewarded when the wing back Filburn Ferrao restored parity in a goalmouth scramble in the 48th minute. 
Thereafter there was not much action and the tie breaker looked eminent.
Soon, St Rocks YC’s young defender Royston Goes conceded a corner kick two minutes before the close and paid dearly for the fault.
 The resultant corner kick was taken by Prinson Fernandes of Ambelim SC Stellon Cardozo made no mistake as he slammed the ball right at the back of the net, to take his team intoQuarters.
At full-time the score was 2-1 in favour of Ambelim SC.
