PANJIM: The highly anticipated table tennis tournament calendar season is set to kick off from June 8, with the Panjim Gymkhana’s Angley’s Table Tennis Team Championship, organised in collaboration with the Goa Table Tennis Association.

On the lines of elite Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT) Championship of the TTFI, this three-day event at Panjim Gymkhana will feature an exciting format of five matches per tie, including veterans (40 & above) doubles, women’s singles, men’s singles, junior (U-19) boys singles and mixed doubles.

Each team, consisting of five players, will compete in a round-robin league format against other teams from the group, with the best four teams qualifying for the semi-finals. Relaunched after a few years break, the Angley’s Team Championship will introduce the UTT format to Goa for the first time, promising an entertaining and competitive platform for players to hone their skills and build team spirit ahead of the ranking tournaments.

Tournament coordinator Ajit Ghantker emphasised the event’s role in fostering camaraderie and providing valuable competitive practice for participants.

“The Goa Table Tennis Association has taken the initiative to revive the prestigious tournament that ran for several decades, featuring top outstation players competing alongside our best. We want to bring back those golden days of table tennis and make it the most participative sport in Goa,” stated Sudin Verenkar, the Goa Table Tennis Association president.
