PANJIM: Anurag Mhamal became Goa’s first Grand Master (GM) and India’s 48th after gaining 4.4 Elo points at the 37th Benasque International Open at Spain at the end of round 5.
Anurag surpassed the 2500 rating in the live Elo list and now has a rating of 2502 following his triumph at the recently concluded 27th Open de Gros International at Spain.
He defeated IM Romeo Sorin Milu (2381) and crossed the 2500 Elo Rating in the live rating list. Though the criteria for GM Title is three GM norms, Anurag has five GM norms under his belt which he gained after winning the National Premier Chess Championship 2012 Kolkata, India, 32nd Open International Cappelle la Grande 2016 Paris, France, Czech Open ‘A’International Chess Tournament 2016 Pardubice, Czech,
