Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club drubbed Deao Sports Club, Quepem 3-0 to march into the semi-final of Navelim Sporting Cup football tournament organised by Navelim Sporting Club at Rosary ground, Navelim on Friday.
Sao Jose de Areal were leading 1-0 at half time.
Sao Jose de Areal enjoyed a major share of exchanges and called the shots against the rival citadel. In the 25th minute striker Socorro Monteiro put Sao Jose into the lead with a stiff grounder.
Stung by this setback, Deao regrouped quickly but could not find success as their opponents did not allow any space to manoeuver inside their territory.
Sao Jose put up a better display and dominated the entire proceedings of the second half with both midfielders and strikers working in tandem to put tremendous pressure on the rival citadel. Their persistent raids fetched them dividends when Fredrick Endro bulged the net after receiving a pass from Mariano Rebello in the 50th minute.
After taking a 2-0 cushion, Sao Jose slackened their pace and did not allow their opponents to strike rhythm. Mariano Rebello drove the last nail into Deao coffin in the 57th minute.
