Areal win shoot-out, storm into quarters

UTORDA: Sao Jose De Areal S.C beat Our Lady of Gloria SC, Raia, 5-3 via the tie-breaker to advance into the semi-finals of the Lourdes festival all-Goa inter-village soccer in memory of late Polly Rodrigues organised by United Club of Utorda in association with SAG Panjim at SAG ground, Utorda, on Sunday.

UTORDA: Sao Jose De Areal S.C beat Our Lady of Gloria SC, Raia,  5-3 via the tie-breaker to advance into the semi-finals of the  Lourdes festival all-Goa inter-village soccer in memory of late Polly Rodrigues organised by United Club of Utorda in association with SAG Panjim  at SAG ground, Utorda, on Sunday.
Sao Jose De Areal SC started the match with on an attacking note and dominated the first half. In the 2nd mminute of the game, David Colaco almost scored but his powerful shot was well saved by the Raia keeper, Leo Colaco. Minutes later, Sao Jose De Areal SC player, Alviton Silva fired a powerful 20 yarder which flew just above the cross bar of Raia. It was defender Joystan Candid who stood rock solid for Our Lady of Gloria SC, Raia. With just six mutes remaining for the half to end, Areal had two  chances through Alviton Silva who failed to convert.The score at the break was 0-0.
Post resumption, both teams played well but failed to find the net. In the 57th minute, Llyod Cardozo of Raia missed a great sitter which was well tackled away by Prisco Moura of Areal.
In the tie-breaker, Frederick Colaco, Vishal Fernandes, Cheston Gomes, Alviton Silva and Prisco Moura scored for San Jose De Areal  while David Gomes , Joystan Cardoz and Lloyd Cardoz scored for Our Lady of Gloria SC, Raia.
