PANJIM: Arlem Sports Club clinched the 40th Nanda Lolayekar Trophy, defeating Vijay Cricket Club by six wickets in the final played at Nirakar Maidan Dapot, Mashem, on Sunday.
Electing to field first, Arlem put up a solid bowling performance which restricted Vijay CC to 160 in 32 overs.
At one stage it looked like Vijay would put up a decent total when they were 112/3, but a good bowling spell from Sherbahaur Yadav (5/30) made them falter way early than expected. Rajat Shet top scored with 63 runs.
Chasing the modest total, Arlem’s Rajshekhar Harikant smashed a half century (56) while Achit Shigwan (39) was the other top run getter.
For the bowling side, Amit Yadav, Shreyas Usgaokar and Sujay Naik took one wicket each.
Following were the individual awards: Best batsman: Aushal Hattangadi; Best bowler: Saniket Palkar; Man of the final: Sherbahadur Yadav; Man of the tournament: Achit Shigwan.
Bramhanand Shankhwalkar was the chief guest and gave the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of guest of honour Prasad Naik and others.
