PANJIM: Ashley Soares scored a fine brace as Salgaocar Football Club got the better of Sporting Clube de Goa 3-1, in GFA’s under-16 First Division football league match, at Don Bosco ground, Panjim on Monday.
Salgaocar led 2-1 at the lemon break.
Salgaocar established easy control in the opening minutes of the match with good short passes in the midfield which kept their rivals on the back-foot at their home turf.
As the match progressed, the visitors took the lead when Ashley headed in from a corner midway through the first half.
The lead lasted barely five minutes as Sporting Clube went on the rampage and pulled back the equalizer through a sweet delicate chip from Savelon Cardozo as the Salgaocar custodian had no clue.
However, just before the breather, Salgaocar managed to edge their noses in front again when Ashley caught the Sporting Club goalkeeper off guard and made it 2-1 with a sublime lob.
After resumption, Sporting Clube worked hard as a unit to try and get back on level terms but was squeezed out in the final third.
Deep into injury time, against the run of play, Salgaocar’s Ashton Rodrigues executed a chip from distance which beat The Flaming Oranje goalkeeper hands down to secure victory for his team.
