Assolda Sports Club downed Dramapur Sports Club 6-5 via the tie-breaker to enter the quarter-finals of 34th St Joseph Festival inter-village football tournament organised by Dramapur Sports Club at Dramapur ground, on Monday. Dramapur led 1-0 at the breather.
Playing an attacking game, Dramapur forced Assolda on the backfoot and seemed to be in command of proceedings in the opening session but the Dramapur defenders provided little room to the Assolda attackers.
Dramapur went into the lead midway in the first half, when striker Jolax Fernandes fired home from close range after he picked up a pass from his colleague.
After the break, Assolda put up a better display and showed greater urgency in their approach and went all out in search of an equaliser with their forwards and midfielders working in tandem to put the rival citadel under pressure. Their hard work paid off when Custodio Fernandes neutralised the lead with a stiff grounder.
Dramapur suffered a jolt when substitute Rolly suffered a head injury while going for an airborne ball with Asssolda players and had his deep wound treated with 11 stitches.
Both teams intensified their attacks in the dying minutes of the game but the match-winner eluded them.
In the penalty shoot-out, Oswin Rodrigues, Custodio Fernandes, Oswald Fernandes, Francis Fernandes and Joseph Fernandes were on target for Assolda while Jolax Fernandes, Ryan Fernandes, Franky Oliveira and Charlton D’Costa netted for Dramapur.
