VAGATOR: Assonora United Football Club emerged victorious after defeating Raia Sporting Club 5-4 via the tie-breaker in the final of the 22nd Vagator Soccer 2022 organised by Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club, at Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club Ground, Ozran, on Sunday.
Raia Sporting Club in the 26th minute had a chance to score the opening goal when a cross by Eldon Colaco from the right flank found Velito Cruz but he couldn’t guide his header into the net.
Assonora United was awarded a 30 yard free kick in the 32nd minute taken by Akash Kudnekar which was put over the bar by the fingertips of Movin Gauncar of Raia Sporting Club.
At the brink of half time, Raia could have taken the lead when a through ball by Velito Cruz to Lloyd Cardozo who was denied by the Assonora keeper Sanij Bugde by a crucial save. The half time score was 0-0.
Crossing ends, in the 43rd minute, Assonora’s Prajat Naik with a pass from the left flank to Sattyam Gaawas missed by a whisker.
Raia could have taken the lead in the 54th minute when Joyson Gauncar missed to score with an overhead kick. A chance for Raia to score yet another one in the 61st minute when Jouston Barbosa’s shot was saved by the Assonora goalkeeper Sanij Bugde. The score was goalless at the end of regulation time.
In the tie-breaker Kunal, Prajot, Rajesh, Saahil and Punaji scored for Assonora while Akash and Tushar failed to score. Lloyd, Daniel, Eldon and Movin found the net for Raia but Jouston, Velito and Sweden missed the target.
The winners were awarded prize money of Rs 70,000 plus trophy while the runners-up received Rs 50,000 plus trophy.
The prizes were awarded by Chief Guest Delilah Lobo (MLA Siolim Constituency), Guest of Honour Samar Merchant (Proprietor Waters) and Girish Raga (Proprietor Ashray Real Estate Developers) in the presence of other dignitaries.
