MAPUSA: Assonora United Football Club held Youth Sports Club of Colvale in a goalless draw in the Bardez Zone GFA’s 3rd Division football league match at Tivim ground, Friday.
The teams went head-to-head in the first session with the ball mainly restricted to the midfield. Changing over, Colvale were a threat, with the forwards pressurizing the rival defence as Assonora’s Franco Colaco almost scoring an own-goal.
Colvale enjoyed the lion’s share of ball possession but Assonora were had the best chance of the match when Colvale defender Drynan Pereira’s header to goalkeeper Siddharth Simepuruskar was well intercepted by Assonora’s Sebastiao Almeida but the latter’s clever chip went inches over.
Colvale regrouped and went all-out in the final quarter but rival custodian Clifford Fernandes left them frustrated, blocking long rangers from Clandy Fernandes and Agnelo D’Souza.
Colvale are second in the group with 14 points below Bicholim Association of Football Fans, who are a point ahead. Assonora are in the spot with 11 points.
Xetrapal rally
to earn point
At Siolim ground, Xetrapal Sports Club rallied to earn a vital 2-2 draw against Arpora Sports Club.
Arpora led 2-0 at half time through strikes from Sarvesh and Vikas but Xetrapal fought bravely in the second session and levelled the scores through Vaibhav and Nandanesh.
Peddem Bomm SC defeated El Shaddai S and Cultural C 3-0.
Cletus Salgaokar, Rohan Ratuwal and Rupesh Khojkar scored for the winners.
