Athletics promotion at Campal, Fatorda

PANJIM: In an initiative to promote athletics in Goa, the Sports Authority of Goa in collaboration with the Goa Athletic Association has taken off with a 10-day Young Beginner Athletic Program, at Campal and Fatorda grounds from December 15 whuich will conclude on December 26.
A total of 50 young promising athletes have been shortlisted for the program to be trained at the two centers.
The aim of the training program is mainly to encourage young aspiring children in the age group of seven to 1 in athletics popularizing with sprinting/running, jumping and throwing events. The program will also help identify the potential National and International champions of tomorrow.
The Joint Director (coaching) Bruno Coutinho stated that, “The need of the hour is to give an opportunity to young children who are interested in taking up sports as a career. We need to hunt sports talents at the tender age and train them to be future champions.”
Steffi Cardozo (APO Athletics and co-ordinator of the program said, “This program aims to identify young promising talents who will be trained and nurtured by our athletic coaches to be future National and International medalists. The spirit and enthusiasm of these youngsters is just overwhelming.”
