Ave Maria Athletic Club, Benaulim made it to the semi-final grade when they were locked goalless draw with Chandor Club in a Coca -Cola Under -16 Celebration Cup football tournament at Rosary Grounds, Navelim, on Wednesday .
With both the sides playing free flowing football and attacking the each other citadel but without success. Both goalkeepers, Terry Rodrigues of Ave Maria and Ivan Dias of Chandor Club were at their best.
Knowing well a win will afloat them in the semis, Chandor Club started the game in right earnest with their forwards taking potshot at the rival goal. But Terry Rodrigues stood tall denying any success to them with good anticipation.
Macklyoid Dias came close in putting Aver Maria into the lead but Chandor Club goalkeeper was equal to the task and averted the danger with superb collection.
Crossing over, Ave Maria upped the tempo and raided the rival citadel on umpteen times with Ramsey came close in breaking the impasse but his try went wide from close range.
With time running out, Elvis Baretto of Ave Maria muffed a sitter with only Chandor Club goalkeeper at his mercy, he blasted wide from handshaking distance.
Earlier, Ave Maria defeated Dicarpale Sports Club 2-0. Wellington Rodrigues and Elvis Baretto were the goal getters.
Chandor Club beat Dicarpale Sports Club 3-2. Ivan Pinto, Evelton Fernandes and Roster Dias netted for winners.
GFA Secretary Savio Messias, Treasurer John Dias, Asst Secretary Jaju Fernandes witnessed the matches.
