Bardez football clubs pleaded that the inter-club inter-village transfers of players which were submitted upto June 30 should be granted by the GFA.
The clubs which met in Mapusa today during the talks with PWD Minister, Churchill Alemao were unanimous that the new rule which was approved at GFA’s AGM on July 18 should not be made applicable with retrospective effect for those who submitted the transfers upto June 30, which is the period of transfers.
Dr Jawaharlal Henriques of Siolim Sodiem, who was instrumental in putting forward the new rule at the AGM on July 18, stated that an amendment could be introduced now since the new rule was approved at the AGM which is the supreme decision making body. However, more than 40 clubs which were present felt that they could not wait till October 24 when the next AGM will be held when also the elections will take place.
Members made a fervent plea to Churchill that the rule should be changed since it was not properly interpreted by the Executive Committee, failing which the clubs opined that the present members of the Executive Committee from Bardez should resign immediately. The clubs pointed out that it was both the clubs from Bardez as well as players who were the sufferers and consequently pleaded that the rule be changed. Churchill promised to take up the matter with his brother Urban Development Minister Joaquim, who is the president of GFA.
Churchill, addressing the clubs stated that he had come just to find out the pulse of Bardez clubs and that he was yet to decide on contesting the election for the post of president. “You decide if you want me. And, if you don’t want me, that’s upto you, but I will always be there for the cause of Indian football,” remarked Churchill.
Churchill disclosed that several clubs from Salcete and some clubs from Bardez had met him earlier asking him to contest the election and stressed that he was yet to take the final decision.
Churchill said that the GFA should have inter-transfer rules like the ones in force for the League and that players should be the ultimate beneficiaries alongwith the clubs.
John Dias, GFA treasurer was also present.
It is learnt that in all, applications from 31 players are pending.
