Dempo SC have been wary of the recent hooligan incidents in Kolkata and have written to All India Football Federation (AIFF) to ensure that the security is beefed up before they travel to the capital of West Bengal to face East Bengal on April 11.
Recently in an I-League match, Pune FC custodian Subrata Paul was attacked by the members of the audience at Howrah stadium with someone throwing a chair towards the player who won the Nehru Cup for the country less than a year ago!
At the Barasat, Churchill Brothers’ Kalu Nnanna was attacked this year as well with teammate Odafa Okolie having to carry the former to the dressing room.
The Salt Lake stadium isn’t safe either given that Mahindra United complained of stones being pelted towards them.
Taking notice of the incidents, the Goan club has asked the AIFF to look into the safety of the players and their coaching staff when they visit the City of Joy.
