MARGAO: A fine hat-trick by Mathew Colaco helped Betalbatim Sporting Club to thump Snow’s Football Academy, Raia 5-1 and advance into the semi-finals of GFA under-16 play-off at school playground, Cuncolim, Wednesday. Betalbatim led 1-0 at the breather.
Betalbatim dominated both sessions and took control of the game when Moses D’Sa opened the floodgates in the eighth minute. Spurred by the early success, Betalbatim intensified their forays and unleashed a barrage of attacks but could not score due to poor marksmanship.
At the other end, Snow’s were a subdued lot and failed to function as a cohesive unit.
Post resumption, Betalbatim continued to dictate terms and enjoyed the lion’s share of exchanges. Josely Dias made it 2-0 in the 45th minute off a pass from Snel Rodrigues.
After taking a 2-0 cushion, Betalbatim outplayed their opponents in all departments. Striker Mathew single handedly demolished the rival fragile defence and struck thrice in the 60th, 71st and 78th minutes to complete his hat-trick. Clayson Pereira reduced the deficit for Snow’s late in the second half.
Betalbatim will now meet the winners of the clash between Salgaocar Football Club and Guardian Angel Sports Club, Curchorem in the final.
