Betalbatim move into last eight

MARGAO: Betalbatim Sporting Club prevailed over St Anthony's Sports Club, Colva 5-4 via tie-breaker to cruise into the quarter-finals of All-Goa 38th Cana Benaulim Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Cana Benaulim Sporting Association, at St John the Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Monday.

MARGAO: Betalbatim Sporting Club prevailed over St Anthony’s Sports Club, Colva 5-4 via tie-breaker to cruise into the quarter-finals of All-Goa 38th Cana Benaulim Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Cana Benaulim Sporting Association, at St John the Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Monday. 
The teams adopted aggressive approach and fired a couple of shorts at either end. 
Betalbatim Sporting Club took the lead after resumption through a Joseph Carvalho strike.
Anthony’s Sports Club came back strongly after going a goal down and mounted pressure on Betalbatim Sporting Club defence. David Costa equalized late into the second half with a long range strike.
In the tie-breaker, Jhonson D’Souza, Allwick Fernandes, Aniston Fernandes and Bonnie Rodrigues scored for Betalbatim Sporting Club. Romario Fernandes, Dulio Andrade and David Costa converted for St Anthony’s Sports Club.
Fr Glorio Barbosa, assistant parish priest of St John the Baptist church, Benaulim was the chief guest and inaugurated the tournament in the presence of guest of honour Minguel Rodrigues.
