CURTORIM: Betalbatim Sporting Club defeated Navelim Villagers Union 9-8 via tie-breaker, to clinch the Curtorim Gymkhana Cup in an exciting final, at St Alex Curtorim Church ground, recently.
In the 13th minute Betalbatim SC’s Frazier Rogtao missed the golden opportunity as his powerful shot went over the cross bar from the top of the penalty area.
Navelim VU’s Alvito Colaco squandered an easy chance as his right footer shot went wide with only the goalkeeper at his mercy.
Both the teams missed number of opportunities as the strikers faltered. At the end of normal regulation time the match was held in a goalless draw. In the resultant tie-breaker Betalbatim SC proved to be better shooters.
Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco, MLA was the chief guest and gave away the prizes along with other guest. Best disciplined team was awarded to SCC Cavelossim, best half of the tournament to Jameson Noronha (Cutorim Gymkhana), best scorer of the final, Aulon Gomes (Navelim VU), farewell goal, Sam Braganza (Betalbatim SC) Surprise prize of the final, Sandy Colaco (Navelim), best mid-fielder, Klusner Pereira (Betalbatim SC), best striker, Princeton Rebello (Betalbatim), best goalkeeper, Sam Braganza (Betalbatim SC), promising player, Mobin Gomes (Navelim VU).
