NAGMODEM-NAVELIM: Betalbatim SC edged past Guirdolim Club 2-1 to move into the quarter-finals of the Navelim Villagers Union trophy in memory of Nelson and Bazeliana Coelho, at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Sunday.
Guirdolim’s striker Melvin Carvalho took control of the ball from Safik Shaikh and dribbled past Betalbatim defender Zebon Dias and shot from close range but Betalbatim keeper Rhys Rebello was equal to the task in the second minute.
Guirdolim’s Melvin Carvalho netted the opener off a placement shot off Cruz Gomes’ connect in the fourth minute.
Three minutes later, Betalbatim’s striker Travis Barretto should have netted but Guirdolim keeper Richard D’Sa palmed away the ball to safety.
Fifteen minutes later, Travis Barretto equalised for Betalbatim.
As the match progressed, in the 48th minute, Betalbatim’s Zebon Dias scored the match-winner.
Betalbatim SC will now meet the winners of Cuncolim Union and Margao SC in the quarter-finals on November 7.
