PANJIM: Comptroller and Audit General (CAG) defeated Air India by 6 wickets in the Goa Corporate League T20, organised by Goa Cricket Association, at GCA ground, Porvorim, on Thursday.
Air India won the toss and elected to bat first, a brilliant half century by opener Paul Valthaty helped Air India score a total of 54 runs.
Paul Valathaty and Jay Bista’s 53-run partnership was brought to halt in the 5th over after Jay (20) fell prey to run-out. Tanmay Misra (19) and harmeet Sing (16) were the other contributors towards the team’s total of 139/10 in 20 overs.
Akhsay Wakhare took two wickets for CAG and spared on 17 runs from 4 overs. Saurav Mandal was however wasteful as he gave 27 runs in the two overs he bowled. Gurinder, Ankit and Imtiaz took two wickets each while Kalaj Saxena picked one for the team.
In the second innings Air India tried to curb down CAG but the bowlers couldn’t help much as Swapnil Salvi (50) and Bhavesh Shetty (46) not-out put up a brilliant show to take CAG ahead to win the match.
CAG exploited the weaknesses at the field and scored tremendous 142 in 18.5 over losing only 4 wickets in the process. Siddharth Trivedi and Raunaq Sharma picked two wickets each for Air India before the end of the inning.
The man-of-the-match was shared by Swapnil Salvi and Bhavesh Shetty who had a 64-run partnership.
In another match, DY Patil defeated ONGC by 36 runs.
Electing to bat first, DY Patil scored a total of 180/7 in 20 overs wherein Kevin Almeida and Sarfaraz Khan 103-run partnership was a nightmare for the bowlers as the pair was unbreakable. Shashank Singh (24, Yogest Takawale (24) and Iqbal Abdulla (10) were the other contributors.
Earlier, ONGC made a brilliant start taking down opener Aman Khan in the first over. Sumit Narwal, Sanjay Pahel and Rahul Tewatia took two wickets each for ONGC.
In reply, ONGC tried hard to lever scored with Pankaj Jaswal (46), Radhey Shyam (20), Sumit Narwal (20) being the top scorers for the chasing side.
However DY Patil were sucessful in restricting ONGC in 144/8.
Sandeep Warrior took 3 wickets giving away 17 runs while Shivam Dubey picket 2 wickets. Vineet, Shashank and Iqbal took a wicket each for DY Patil.
Sandeep Warrior and Kevin Almeda shared the man-of-the match.
