DULER: Vasco Sports Club managed to hold rivals Calangute Association to a 1-1 draw in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium here on Wednesday.
Calangute now are on 5th position with 19 points off 11 matches while Vasco are on 8th place with 10 points off 11 matches.
In a well contested encounter it was Vasco who had the first crack at the rival goal when in the 10th minute Franck Alves Kouassi sent a perfect pass to skipper Jason Vaz who was timely thwarted by the onrushing Calangute keeper Melroy Fernandes.
At the other end Sunny Fernandes got hold of a floater from Raju Haldankar but made a mess of the opportunity by shooting tamely into the waiting hands of keeper Shilton Fernandes.
Keeper Shilton came with two quick saves in the 25th and 26th minute to frustrate the efforts of Sunny Fernandes.
Couple of minutes into the match Sunny once again came attacking when he tried to lob the ball over the advanced keeper however it travelled narrowly wide.
Not the one to give up, in the 38th minute of play Sunny got hold of a pass from Bonny Niasso and charged into the Vasco camp and drilled the ball to the far end of the rival nets, 1-0.
On resumption of play both the sides adapted to midfield tactics for the initial moments with moves few and far between.
Finally in the 66th minute of play Vasco managed to restore parity when Kingslee made his way into the Vasco camp and set up Frank Alves Kouassi who after dancing his way past the Calangute defenders slotted the ball home, 1-1.
Moments before the final whistle Calangute almost took the lead but Yogesh Kadam’s rasping right footer missed the target narrowly.
