Candolim move into semis

Hosts Candolim Sports Club got the better of Anjuna Gymkhanna 5-4 via the tie-breaker after both the teams were involved in a goalless draw to move into the semi-finals of Fr. Chico Cup inter-village football tournament sponsored by Bayside Properties Private Limited at Dr. Gustavo Monteiro stadium, Candolim on Saturday.
Dominating the first half, Candolim failed to find the net on a couple of occasions with Joelit, Stanley and Roy missing the target narrowly.
Anjuna fought back in the second session and could have scored but their forwards missed chances. Candolim goalkeeper Morje too came to his side’s rescue punching over a Gauresh Mandrekar free-kick.
With both teams unable to find the net, the match went into the tie-breaker. Candolim kept their nerves cool to romp home victorious 5-4. Shankar, Manuel, Sarvesh, Stanley and Joelit converted for Candolim while Vinayak, Rajesh, Soma and Saprem were on target for Anjuna.
