Cansaulim’s Katti is Goa’s star

PANJIM: The Hero Indian Super League is a perfect platform for domestic players to shine.

Last season it was FC Goa’s Romeo Fernandes who took centre stage for his scintillating performance while this edition, his teammate Laxmikant Kattimani has managed to make an impact which has also led the goalkeeper to break into the National side of Stephen Constantine.
FC Goa coach, Zico has showed faith in Kattimani as the Cansaulim-based player has made nine appearances out of the teams 12 matches. The fascinating fact is that the Brazilian legend has opted for Kattimani ahead of Brazilian born custodian Elinton Andrade, who has made only four starts. This has given the team to field an additional foreign player.
“It is a great feeling and gives me a lot more confidence”, says Kattimani, who has two clean sheets to his name and has come up with 31 crucial saves for his side which is currently in the second position of the table with 19 points.
When asked the 26-year-old on his motivation factor, he says “Nothing special. I’m just trying to give my best in every game in all the possible ways.”
FC Goa’s form has been shaky, from recording a historic 7-0 victory over Mumbai City FC and suffering 0-4 defeats on two occassions.
The custodian feels that the team gives their best, on and off the field but sometimes the results are not in their control.
“There is no reason behind this. It is football and in football there are always ups and downs. We give our 100 per cent every game but sometimes results come our way and sometimes it does not.”
When asked if The Gaurs have a psychological advantage against Kerala Blasters FC, whose hopes of qualifying have already crashed, Kattimani replied, “I don’t think so as Kerala Blasters will play to win as it’s their home match.”
Kattimani is confident that his team has what it takes to clinch the title and is looking forward for the final showdown which is slated on December 20 on home soil at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda.
Lastly, the talented keeper thanked all the fans for the love and support shown to FC Goa.
