PANJIM: Carmel Sports Club and Santa Cruz Society of Poitomado played out an enthralling 4-4 draw in the Goa Football Association’s Third Division League match played at Astro Turf ground in Fatorda, on Sunday.
Carmel SC were the first to find the breakthough as Danstan Fernandes scored in the 40th minute.
The high tempo match saw as many as seven goals in the second half alone starting with Trenoy Dias’ equaliser in the 50th minute. The striker made a run and shot towards the goal the ball got deflected off a rival defender and went into the nets to the goalkeeper’s dismay.
Carmel SC tried hard to maintain the inorder to score and get the upperhand in the match and were soon successful as they were awarded a freekick after a yellow card tackle by Poitamado’s Brigesh Shelke.
Freekick taker Brewin Teles passed the ball to Laxman Thapa who made no mistake to fire the ball home to get the desired lead in the 58th minute.
Poitomado soon equalised in the 61st minute after a failed clearane by the rival goalkeeper. Poitomado’s striker Seriton Estrocio who was lurking in the box, on receiving the ball from a rebound took his time and slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to score the equaliser, 2-2.
Seriton scored yet another goal after a defensive lapse; he camly placed the ball home to gain the lead for his side in the 74th minute.
Struck by reverse, the Carmel SC side regrouped and tried to make amends for their mistakes as Laxman made a crazy run and shot home to level terms with the rivals. While they were at it, Carmels scored once more through Royston Coutinho to take the tally to 3-4.
It was not the day Poitomado would give away points easily as Seriton completed his hat-trick in style after his chipped the ball over the keeper to equalise and bring the match back to where it all started before the final whistle.
In another match PVC Parra held Holiday Sports Club Arpora to a 1-1 draw, at Parra ground.
Pallav Murari of Holiday Sports Club scored an own goal in the 68th minute while Saish Palyekar neeted the equaliser in the 78th minute for the Arpora side.
At Nachinola ground, Friends XI Vaddem defeated Bastora United SC 2-0.
With either of the teams jostling for possession and cancelling out each other moves they was very little breakthrough action in the first half.
Post resumption, Abdul Razak broke the deadlock for Friends XI Vaddem while Mawrick Almeida drove the final nail into the coffin just before the final whistle.
Football Club Sanquelim edged past Sirsaim S&W Centre 2-1, at Duler Stadium, Mapusa.
Kasim Shakh scored the opening goal in the 5th minute for the Sanquelim side while Sirsaim’s Flangel Fernandes cancelled the lead in the 28th minute. The scores were tallied 1-1 at half-time.
Post resumption, Milind Rane scored the match winner for FC Sanquelim in the 66th minute.
Elsewhere at Dando ground, Benaulim, St. Rock’s Youth Club Majorda were awarded a walkover after Carmona Sports Club didn’t turn up at the venue.
