Carmel Sports Club swamped Navelim Sporting Club 9-2 in GFA’s Third Division league at Sinquetim ground, Navelim on Sunday. Carmel led 4-2 at half time.
Carmel dominated and went ahead in the very 2nd minute when Sibon Soares’ snap shot beat the rival goalkeeper hands down.
Spurred by the early lead, Carmel piled on pressure and in the 15th minute Joe Dias punished the rival goalkeeper with a stiff grounder.
Stung by quick double blows, Navelim regrouped and their efforts bore fruits a minute later as Clinton Niasso reduced the margin with a swift shot.
Carmel retaliated and virtually toyed with the rival’s defence. Jeff Pires struck a brace in 18th and 19tn minutes to give a 4-1 cushion.
Navelim again went into the scoring act with Mohidin A pulling one back.
The second session was a one-sided affair with Carmel teasing and tormenting the rival defence. They scored through Joe Dias in the 63rd, 65th and 80th (not hat-trick) while Julio Fernandes and Jose Luis scored one apiece.
