CURCHOREM: Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim defeated Wilred Leisure SC 9-8 via sudden death in XIth All Goa late Fr. Gervasio Pinto inter-village football tournament, organized by Angels Boys of Curchorem under the auspices of Guardian Angel Sports Club, at Figuereido ground, Curchorem.
Regular score was 1-1. Wilson Fernandes opened the account for Wilred in the 15th minute of the first half.
Cavelossim worked very hard to equalize the lead and in the 20th minute they found success through Charles Rodrigues. Both the teams tried their level best to increase their tally but failed to break the deadlock.
Finally Cavelossim proved better shooters than Wilred SC in the tie-breaker.
Meanwhile in the inaugural match, Panchwadi United SC defeated United Club of Benaulim 5-4 via the tie-breaker, on Sunday.
The score was 2-2 during regular time.
Jaison Pereira of Benaulim opened an account in the 26th minute of first half.
After changing ends Stalin Baptista doubled the account in the 10th minutes. Simon D’Costa and Francisco Godinho helped Panchwadi to equalize the score in the 14th and 27th minute of second half.
Earlier, chief guest Fr. Joaquim Rebello, Vice-Principal of Guardian Angel Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology, Curchorem, declared the tournament open in the presence of Fr. Mario Dias, Assistant Parish Priest of Guardian Angel Church, Curchorem, Social Worker Earl Braganza and John D’Costa, former president of Guardian Angel SC, Curchorem.
Earlier, former secretary of the club Danny Carvalho welcomed the gathering and later proposed a vote of thanks.
