VARCA: Chadvaddo defeated Novangully 2-1 to clinch the Chelsea Memorial Varca inter-ward football tournament, organised by United Boys of Varca, played at Varca ground, on Sunday.
Elvis Fernandes of Chadvaddo connected the ball to Swyngton Rebello but Novangully keeper Mohamed Shaikh saved it in the 3rd minute.
Chadvado netted the first goal of the match through Clevis Gonsalves, who scored with a powerful shot off Leo Martins connect in the 20th minute.
Within four minutes Chadvado netted the second through Swyngton Rebello’s placement shot off Joel Fernandes’ assist. Chadvaddo led 2-0 at the break.
Swyngton Rebello should have netted the third but the rival keeper saved it.
A defensive lapse by the Chadvaddo cost them a goal in the 36th minute when Rosario D’Costa capitalised on the lapse and scored past the helpless keeper to make it 1-2.
Benaulim MLA and chief guest Churchill Alemao gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up in the presence of other dignatries.
The winners were richer by Rs 30,000 while the runners-up had to be content with Rs 20,000.
