VARCA: Chandor Sports Club got the better of Calangute Association 6-4 via tie-breaker to move into the semi-final of Varca Panchayat Cup, organised by Varca Sports Club, at Varca ground, on Saturday.
The teams were tied 1-1 at the break.
Darren Fernandes gave Chandor Sports Club the lead in the 16th minute when he dribbled past rival defender Deep Govekar and placed into the far corner of the nets giving no chance for keeper Selwyn D’Souza.
In the 28th minute, Joaquim Gonsalves cross was well placed by Anand Kerkar to level the score.
In the second half both the teams put lot of pressure to score but all their efforts went in vain. The teams played 1- 1 draw in regulation time.
In the tie –breaker, Cruz Gomes, Johnson Gomes, Frazer Gomes, Jeston Martins and Benson Fernandes scored for Chandor Sports Club, while Pedro Gonsalves, Joaquim Gonsalves and Deep Govekar converted for Calangute Association.
Chandor’s Darren Fernandes was adjudged the man of the match.
