Chandor Club lift Bro Eulalio memorial football trophy

RAIA: Chandor Club lifted their 22nd Bro Eulalio Vaz memorial football trophy defeating Sao Jose de Areal 3-1 via tie-breaker in the tournament organised by Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, at Don Bosco Oratory ground, Fatorda, on Sunday. 

The final match began on a fast pace and Chandor Club attacked in the very first minute of the game but Alreach Peixito missed to tap in the open goal. On the other hand, Sao Jose de Areal Rayman’s left footer missed the target in the 16th minute of the game. 

As match progressed, Areal Alister Monteiro’s powerful shoot was punched away by Chandor Club goalkeeper Alwyn Faria before the half time. 

At the half time, both teams remained goalless draw. Changing over, Chandor Club’s Vitorinho Fernandes and Gayden Pereira created many chances, which kept a thousand of spectators on their toes. 

In the last quarter of the match, Areal’s players Alister, Keston and Rayman tried to break into the Chandor Club defence but Akram, Joaquim and Cruz denied Areal to Score. 

In the dying minutes of the game, Chandor Club Vitorinho Fernandes’ try was blocked by Areal keeper Monty Valadares. Referee Milagris Noronha blew the final whistle to end the regulation time and to decide result by penalty shoot-out. 

In the penalty shoot-out, Chandor Club scored through Vitorinho Fernandes, Joaquim Carvalho and Mark Fernandes, while Sao Jose de Areal’s only Tyson Carvalho found the net.

Chief guest Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai gave away the prizes in the presence of Fr Giovanni Rolandi, Fr Kinley D’Cruz (director of Don Bosco, Fatorda) Fr Ralin De Souza (rector Don Bosco, Fatorda), Fr George Quadros (director, Project Rice), Fr Leo Pereira (director, Don Bosco, Fatorda), Fr Thomas Fernandes (confesor-shrine), Anthony Pango, senior vice-president of Goa Football Association; Cosme Oliver, GFA Executive Member and other dignitaries and club members.

Vincent Fernandes compered, while Cyril Castanha proposed a vote of thanks.
