Chandor Club win shoot-out

GOA VELHA: Chandor Club huffed and puffed to a 7-6 sudden death win over a spirited St. Mathew’s Sports Club, Azossim in the inaugural match of the 14th London Trophy inter-village football tournament, organised by Goa Velha Sports Club, at Goa Velha Sports Club ground, on Saturday.

Chandor Club surged ahead in the fourth minute through Richard D’Sa who lobbed the ball over the rival goalkeeper Kaushik Naik.

Louie Noronha made it 2-0 in favour of Chandor Club as he shot home off a pass from Richard D’Sa in the 34th minute . 

St. Mathew’s SC, Azossim came into the second half blazing and missed to reduce the target as Olvin Cardozo saw his effort saved by the rival keeper in the 45th minute. St. Mathew’s SC finally reduced the margin in the 48th minute through Olvin Cardozo who shot home off a Newton Rodrigues pass. 

St. Mathew’s SC immediately found the equaliser within two minutes as Olvin Cardozo converted a spot kick which was awarded as the rival defender handled the ball in the dreaded area. 

In the ensuing tie-breaker, Chandor Club converted through Joaquim Carvalho, Irfan Yadwad, Daniel D’Costa, Sevaraj D’Costa and Melvin Carvalho. Moises D’Sa saw his effort saved by the Azossim keeper.

St. Mathew’s SC, Azossim scored through Ashley Cardozo, Filton D’Cunha, Olvin Cardozo and Selvino Gonsalves. Rayan Menezes and Elton Godinho saw their efforts being saved by the Chandor keeper.
