MAPUSA: Chapora Yuvak Sangh registered a well deserved 3-1 win over their neighbors Vagator PYSC in a GFA’s Second Division League play-off at Duler stadium, here on Saturday.

With today’s win Chapora YS has six points, while Vagator PYSC has just one point from two matches.

Chapora’s goal scoring machine Sachidanand Satelkar came with two superb quick goals, the first from the penalty spot and the other with a scorching left footer from inside the penalty box.

Earlier, Chapora’s Sachidanand Satelkar and Shario Gomes’ strikes sailed over the crossbar.

In the 28th minute, Chapora’s Pratik Dhargalkar was brought down by Vagator’s defender Godwin Fernandes, prompting referee Deepraj to point to the dreaded spot much to the disbelief of Vagator’s players and strong supporters. Sachidanand scored.

Just two minutes later, Sachidanand collected a floater from Sankalp Kankonkar and let go a left footer past Vagator’s custodian Mehboob Hussian.

Vagator came back into the match in the 38th minute when their striker Reeve D’Costa was also brought down this time by Chapora’s custodian Soma Korgaonkar. Godwin Fernandes stepped forward and scored 2-1.

Just nine minutes into the second session, Vagator should have leveled terms when Mohammed Khan sent a diagonal pass to substitute Vihar Kholkar whose strike was, however, brilliantly pushed for a corner by Chapora’s custodian Soma Korgaonkar.

At the other end, Sachidanand’s corner was connected by Pranav Gaonkar but it hit the upright on its way out.

Vagator had another glorious chance to level terms but Vaniel Travasso’s header sailed inches over the crossbar.

In the 75th minute, Chapora’s goalkeeper Soma Korgaonkar came with a breath-taking save as he stretched his leg to block Reeve D’Costa’s stiff grounder from close.

In the added time, Vagator’s skipper Vanael Travasso was sent off for a second booking offence.

Chapora scored their third goal with Maurti Horizon guiding Sankalp Kankonkar’s cross into the goal.

Being a tense encounter, Police personel were present to keep the over-enthusiastic supporters in check. Tensions flared at the end of the match, with Chapora’s Pratik Dhargalkar and Vagator’s Ali Khan exchanging kicks at each other. However, with the intervention of some GFA’s executive committee members and Police the situation was brought under control.
