BENAULIM: Chinchinim Veterans survived some anxious movements in the closing stages of the match to register a solitary goal victory over Vasco Veterans to enter the semi-final of the 1st Monti Trophy Veterans soccer tournament, organised by United Boys of Monte-Benaulim and played at Monti grounds, Benaulim, on Wednesday.
Chinchinim Veterans started brightly and took an early lead in the 7th minute itself when medio Mahesh Lotlikar found John Leitao on the overlap and the wing back’s left footer went past rival keeper Camilo Barreto to make it 1-0.
Chinchinim Veterans led 1-0 at the break.
Chinchinim Veterans were restricted to their own half in the second session and were lucky when Derrick Pereira’s glancing header struck the crossbar and rebound back to play in 37th minute .
Vasco Veterans totally dominated the proceedings as they pressed Chinchinim Veterans in search of equaliser but were unlucky not to score any goals.
