MARGAO: Churchill Brothers face a serious second-leg test as they are set to avenge their first-leg loss to Mohun Bagan of Kolkata in a Round 14 I-league match at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, here on Sunday.
All eyes will be on Churchill Bros Nigerian striker N D Opara and Brazilian Beto whose experience in playing for Mohun Bagan should come in handy. They will miss the services of defender D. Ravanan due to a double booking and his place will be taken by Australian Antun Kovacic.
“It will be a tough match,” opined Churchill Brothers Portuguese coach Manuel Gomes (Prof Neca). “We are fully prepared and ready for them. I know the Mohun Bagan technical director will motivate his team to come hard on us. The boys are aware of the situation and are aware that we cannot settle for nothing than a win,” pointed out Prof Neca.
“It will be business as usual. Another day with a different team. It will be an interesting affair,” said Bagan’s technical director Subrata Bhatacharya.
“We are confident of notching up a win and moving up, but Churchill are not a team that can be taken lightly. They are always a dangerous side,” remarked the Bagan official.
Mohun Bagan face injury worries to striker Sunil Chettri, midfielders Manish Methani, Gouranga Dutta. Brazilian midfielder Hudson Lima stands suspended on account of double booking.
Churchill Brothers are on a high and, mathematically, have a chance to lead the table. For the moment, they are a point adrift of league leaders Dempo (27 points) but with a match in hand against Pailan Arrows – to be played at a later date — Churchill know they have the upperhand.
