MAPUSA: Churchill Brothers came down from a goal down to hold Calangute Association to a 1-1 draw in the CAM Goa Professional League played at Duler stadium here on Saturday.

Both the teams came into the match having drawn there last GPL match.

The goals came in the second session of play. Nitesh Hazra scored for Calangute while Aaron Bareto equalised for Churchill Brothers.

The Beachside lads brought two early frights to their opponents but Cameroon signing Junior Carret saw his placement travel out with only Churchill keeper to beat in the very first minute while five minutes later Pandurang Gauns fierce left footer sailed inches past the crossbar.

At the other end Churchill’s U-20 Bradley Carvalho was beautiful set up by Trijoy Dias but the later blasted the ball wide.

At the half an hour mark a superb placement by Jobern Cardozo was brilliantly pushed for a corner by Calangute’s keeper Presley Mascarenhas.

In a quick counter attack Calangute’s U-20 Jovito Fernandes saw his strike hit the keeper for a corner.

Another glorious chance went a begging for Calangute in the 45th minute when Melvin Lobo sent his header to Junior Carret whose tap at the goal was halted by the keeper on the goal-line.

Just ten minutes into the second session and the Red Machine should have broken the deadlock. Trijoy Dias moved delightly past a host of rival defenders and curled his shot at the goal which was paired by the keeper and the ball rolled in the direction of Aaron Bareto whose strike was blocked by the defender on the goal-line.

Calangute opened their account in the 61st minute with defender Nitesh Hazra connecting his header off Moises D’Sa corner into the top corner of the goal to take the lead.

It did not take long for Red Machine to score their equalizer which came in the 66th minute off a defensive error by the defenders and the keeper to find Aaron Bareto who was lurking nearby guided the ball into the unguarded goal, 1-1

After minutes of midfield tussel Calangute’s Richard Cardozo latched a 25-yard shot at the goal which was stylishly paired for a corner by keeper Subhajit Bhattacharjee.

Aaron Bareto received the man of the match award from the hands of GFA’s President Dr. Caitan Fernandes.
