PANJIM: Geno brand ambassador, CM Nitish Belurkar (2090) of Goa remained on course for a medal with a clinical victory over higher rated Jayakumaar S (2231) of Tamil Nadu to move to joint first place along with four others with 6.5 points after eight rounds at the 41st and 32nd National Sub-Junior (U-15) Open & Girl’s Chess championship, at Akhnoor, Jammu and Kashmir, on Saturday.
Nitish is so far undefeated in this championship and plays FM Mitrabha Guha (2124) of West Bengal in a crucial round on Sunday.
Among the other Goans, Milind Gauns is on four points, Gaurav Madkaikar, G Madhavan and Harsh Sonawane remain on 3.5 points while Vinayak Thevar remains on three points.
In the Girl’s section, Prabhugaonkar Aditee Aman (1690) of Goa lost to Shristi Pandey (1818) to remain on five points. Gayathri S (1236) moved to four points with a win over Sushma Reddy while Thorat Aishwarya (1531) lost to Tishrota Chakraborty (1268) to remain on 3.5 points.
