MARGAO: CRC Chinchinim edged past Sporting Club of Davorlim 4-3 via tie-breaker to cruise into the quarter-finals of all-Goa Bebe Costa Memorial Super Soccer inter-village football tournament organized by United Club of Benaulim, at St John the Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Monday.
CRC Chinchinim were a better side and showed urgency in the opening session with their midfielders creating a couple of openings but their forwards squandered chances from ideal positions. They had the first opportunity to score but Piyush Chari’s well-executed shot hit the crossbar.
Post resumption, CRC Chinchinim enjoyed the better share of exchanges and troubled the rival defence with well orchestrated raids. CRC Chinchinim nearly broke the deadlock but rival defender Andrew Colaco came to his side’s rescue by thwarting Sunny Fernandes’ goal bound shot.
With time running out, CRC Chinchinim went all out but the score line remained the same until the final whistle.
In the ensuing penalty shoot-out, Ryan Fernandes, Sunny Fernandes, Nickson Rebello and Sunny Simoes were on target for CRC Chinchinim while Paxton Gomes, Venson Figureido and Romeo Colaco scored for Sporting Club of Davorlim.
