MARGAO: Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao registered a fluent 3-0 victory over Immaculate Conception Sports Club (ICSC), Paroda to enter the quarter-finals of All-Goa 40th Chandor Seamen’s Trophy inter-village football tournament organized by Chandor Club at Chandor ground, Friday. Taleigao led 1-0 at half time.
Taleigao took the lead when Thomson Fernandes’ clinical finish beat the rival goalkeeper.
At the other end, the Paroda team were at the receiving end and hardly made any inroads to trouble the rival defence.
The second session did not bring any respite to ICSC as their opponents attacked from the flanks. Vardhan Haldankar put the issue beyond doubt when he placed the ball to the far corner of the net and then Francis Rebello made it 3-0 in the final quarter.

Dempo rout Margao

MAPUSA: Dempo came back strongly in the second session to crush Margao Sports Club with a tennis score of 6-0 in a round four match of Airtel Goa Pro League football at Duler Stadium, here, Friday. The teams were locked goalless at half time.
Dempo moved up in the fourth position with seven points while Margao suffered their fourth consecutive defeat and are languishing at the bottom.
After already conceding 25 goals in their previous three matches, Margao displayed a spirited performance to frustrate their rivals in the first session. However, their citadel fell in the 64th minute when Myron Fernandes opened the floodgates with a beautiful header.
Dempo fielded a strong team and enjoyed the lion’s share of ball possession in the first session but could not score as their lone striker Billy Mehmet hardly tested Margao goalkeeper Gurdev Singh.
Brazilian Roberto Mendes da Silva’s (Beto) 20-yard free-kick which sailed inches over in the eighth minute was the closest Dempo came to scoring in the first half.
In the 18th minute, Dempo’s left-back Mandar Dessai sent a low cross inside the box to Billy but Margao’s Michael Faleiro made a timely clearance.
Dempo continued with the same rhythm as Romeo Fernandes crossed to Beto, whose side-footed placement was palmed to safety by the rival custodian at the half hour mark.
At the other end, Margao were a subdued lot and did not have any attempts on goal but their defensive tactics worked well as they restrained Dempo’s attacks.
Changing over, Dempo brought in Myron Fernandes in place of Nickson Castanha.
In the 64th minute, Dempo surged ahead after Beto’s flag-kick was headed in by Myron. The super-sub broke the deadlock in his second consecutive appearance as a substitute.
Spurred by the success, Dempo doubled their advantage six minutes later when Romeo’s cross was powerfully headed in by diving Beto.
Two minutes later, Romeo made it 3-0 with a deft placement and Myron registered his brace in the 76th minute.
There was no looking back for hardworking Romeo, who scored his second goal of the evening after beautifully curling past goalkeeper Gurdev in the 80th minute.
In the 83rd minute, it was 6-0 when Billy scored his first goal of the season with a neat finish off an assist from substitute Joy Ferrao.
