MAPUSA: Cunchelim SC registered a thumping 4-1 win over Sinquerim SC in the GFA 2nd Division League sixth round league match, played at Duler stadium, on Wednesday.
With Wednesday’s win, Cunchelim SC moved to five points while, Sinquerim remain rock bottom of the league table with just a point.
Cunchelim led 1-0 at the end of first- half with the goal coming from Ganesh Poojar who, on controlling a pass from Mudassir beat the keeper with a low grounder. Before conceding the goal, Sinquerim had started the match on the front foot and had decent chances to open the scoring but were let down by inept finishing from their strikers, Donald Rocha and Terry Dias who failed in finding the target from close range.
Cunchelim almost doubled their lead in the 39th minute but Mudassir Shah’s rasping 40-yard shot was acrobatically kept out by Sinquerim keeper Vassudev.
Changing ends, Cunchelim kept bombarding their opponent’s goal but were denied yet again by the brilliance of Sinquerim’s keeper who pushed out Abel Dias and Francisco’s well-struck shots for a corner.
It was a chaotic final ten minutes as Sinquerim who had only conceded one goal so far, let in three more goals with Mahableshwar Thanekar finding the target from a very tight angle in the 80th minute, Ganesh Poojar completing his brace with a clever dink and substitute Myron Dias completing the rout with a clever placement in the 92nd minute.
However, there was still time for Sinquerim to pull one goal back which came from Sanket Pal.
