SAO JOSE DE AREAL: Cuncolim Union blanked St Rock Youth Club Majorda 2-0 to enter the semi-finals of the 38th Areal Panchayat inter-village football tournament, organised by Sao Jose de Areal SC and played at Padribhat ground, on Thursday.
Rosario Carvalho, Edney Fernandes and Alister Fernandes missed chances to score for Cuncolim in the 6th, 9th and 12th minutes respectively.
Later Majorda’s Ismail Pathan should have netted but the lad’s shot sailed over the cross bar in the 21st minute.
A minute later, Cuncolim’s goal scoring machine Daulat Dessai should have netted but his effort hit Majorda’s crossbar.
In the second half Cuncolim’s coach Dilip Velip gave extra task to Alister Fernandes to take control of the midfield and the plan worked well as Cuncolim Union netted two goals through Alister Fernandes. His first scored in the 46th minute and later completed his brace in the 68th minute with a curling free kick.
Cuncolim Union will meet SC Davorlim in the semi final.
