MARGAO: Cuncolim Union got the better of Goa Velha Sports Club with a solitary goal victory in the finals of All-Goa Inter-Village Seraulim Villagers Panchayat Cup Football Tournament organised by United Sports Club of Seraulim at at SAG ground, Seraulim. There was no score at half time.
The teams started on a very cautious note with the ball mostly restricted to the midfield. The only opportunity that came Cuncolim Union’s way was in the 21st minute when Daulat Desai sped down but his weak shot was easily collected by the Goa Velha goalkeeper.
After a goalless first half, the teams entered the field with renewed ideas with Cuncolim in the attack for most part of the game but the Goa Velha defence stood strong. Goa Velha on the other hand did make some moves. However, they were not threatening
The large crowd was preparing for the tie-breaker when just seven minutes before the final whistle, Austin Fernandes grabbed an opportunity and scored with a weak header during a mix up between Goa Velha’s goalkeeper Pratik Kankonkar and defender Kunal Kundaikar, thus giving Cuncolim Union the opportunity to lift the Seraulim Panchayat Cup.
Sima Shanke, Seraulim Sarpanch was the Chief Guest. Leslie Dourado was the Guest of Honour along with Parish Priest Fr Benjamin Sacrafamilia. Domingos Fernandes, Alina Pereira, Stephane Fernandes, Angela Dourado, all Panchayat members were the special Invitees. Policarpo, President of the Club proposed the vote of thanks.
Following prizes were awarded: Best striker Daulat Desai from Cuncolim Union. Best goalKeeper Hrishikesh Gaonkar from Cuncolim Union. Man-of-the match Kunal Kundaikar from Goa Velha SC. Best defendder Raghuvir Gaunkar.
