MARGAO: Striker Tony Dias registered a brace as Curtorim Gymkhana drubbed Fr Agnelo Youth Sports Club, Paroda 3-0 and romped into the semi-finals of all-Goa Vodafone inter-village football tournament organized by Colmorod Ratvado Sports Club at Rosary ground, Navelim, Saturday. Curtorim led 2-0 at the breather.
Fr Agnelo created a scare in the very third minute when central defender Pascoal Fernandes’ rasping free-kick hit the cross bar.
The scare served as a wakeup call for Curtorim Gymkhana, who replied with quick counterattacks. Their efforts were rewarded in the sixth minute when striker Sertorio Monteiro was brought down by rival defender Marcos D’Costa inside the penalty box and the referee without any hesitation awarded the spot kick which was converted by Bruno Fernandes.
Stung by the setback, Fr Agnelo tried their best to neutralize the lead but failed to get past the rival defence.
Curtorim galvanized their attacks and doubled their lead when Tony Dias nodded home Anthony Cardozo’s well executed floater in the 21st minute.
Demoralized by the deficit, Fr Agnelo failed to function as a cohesive unit.
After the resumption, Curtorim raised the tempo and tormented the rival defence with raids. Tony drove the final nail into the rival coffin in the 58th minute when he headed home off a Sertorio cross.
Fr Agnelo tried their best to come back into the game but failed to get past the rival defenders. Pascoal Fernandes of Fr Agnelo was adjudged most valuable player. Curtorim received Rs 4,000.
