RAIA: Curtorim Gymkhana defeated Fr Agnel SC 4-2 via the tie-breaker to enter the semi-finals of the FC Raia Cup soccer tournament, played at the Raia Panchayat ground, on Monday.
The game began on equal footings as both teams had their chances in the opening minutes of the game.
Curtorim’s Nelson Fernandes header missed the Fr Agnel nets by whiskers in the 6th minute.
At the other end, Fr Agnel’s Cyril Dias also saw his effort narrowly miss the target in the 20th minute.
Curtorim Gymkhana enjoyed more set pieces in the form of free-kick and corners and were slightly more successful going forward.
Curtorim controlled the game and had more possession which led to the frustration of the Fr Agnel FC defenders.
Curtorim had a great opportunity when Joy Hilario slipped a pass to Josly Costa inside the box in the 49th minute. Josly tried yet another shot that was saved at point blank by rival keeper range in the 60th minute.
The Fr Agnel forwards were an isolated lot up front and they couldn’t find a way to goal and the game eventually went into tie-breakers.
In the resultant tie-breaker Curtorim Gymkhana netted through Nelson Fernandes, Jessel Carneiro, Savio Fernandes and Joaquim Carvalho and for Fr Agnel SC only Sezwin Fernandes and Macky Fernandes scored.
Curtorim Gymkhana will meet the winners of Parish Youth Nuvem and Cortalim Villagers in the semi-final on May 27.
