MARGAO: A late strike by Godfrey Rodrigues helped Curtorim Gymkhana to score a narrow 1-0 win over Corps of Signals in a GFA First Division league match at Assolna ground, Tuesday.
Signals enjoyed a slight edge in both sessions, yet they ended on the losing side. They had scoring opportunities but substitute Nagarkar shot wide from close range and Lalpuah’s feeble shot went straight into the hands of Curtorim Gymkhana goalkeeper Oswin Rodrigues.
Curtorim Gymkhana tried their best and came close in surging ahead but Papilon and Ashlon were erratic.
Signals nearly found success in the first session but Valte squandered the chance with only the goalkeeper to beat off a measured cross from Roshan Singh.
Signals had an excellent scoring chance after the break but striker Budi Bahahdur and Roshan Singh lacked the finishing touches.
The lone goal came in the 81st minute when Brian Fernandes’ cross deflected off a rival defender and travelled to Godfrey who connected it.
