PANJIM: Curtorim Gymkhana overpowered Davorlim Sports Club 2-0 to win Fr. Agnelo Youth inter-village football tournament organised by Fr. Agnelo Youth Sports Club, Paroda, Quepem.
Curtorim bagged Rs. 30,000 while Davorlim settled for Rs. 20,000.
The teams dished out some exciting soccer, frequently attacking each other’s citadel.
Curtorim broke the deadlock in the dying minutes of the first half through Francisco Rodrigues.
Down by a goal, Davorlim fought back but their efforts failed to bear fruits. During the second half Agnelo D’Costa scored for Curtorim to clinch the trophy.
Following individual prizes were awarded: Man-of-the match Agnelo D’Costa of Curtorim Gymkhana. First scorer of finals Francisco Rodrigues of Curtorim Gymkhana. Best goalkeeper of the tournament M Sachin of Davorlim. Best defender of finals Manuel Castana of Curtorim Gymkhana.
Alleluia Afonso, Sarpanch of Avedem-Cotombi-Chaify was the chief guest and gave away the prizes. Assistant Parish Priest of Paroda Church, Fr. Xavier Braganza, Adv. Peter John Alphonso, Councilor of Quepem Municipal Council, Amol Kanekar, panchas, Shashikant Prabhu Dessai and Minguel Fernandes were also present.
Earlier, the president of the club Nevil Alphonso welcomed. Chairman of the organising committee Francis D’Costa proposed the vote of thanks. Conceicao Fernandes and Francisco Fernandes compered the function.
